“Mushoku tensei” and “Ascendance of a bookworm” are the normal kind

“Reincarnated as a sword” and “Reborn as a wending machine” are whacky but very fun to read/watch

“That Time I Was Reincarnated as the Villainess’s Stat Menu”

is a different beast entirely

Actually just started reading the translated novel for the google spreadsheet one, so far it’s a fun read!

Virus Tensei (manga) - MC reincarnates as a virus, he can infect monsters, copy skills as “symptoms” and use them with the current host. Kind of fun, specially after

    early-ish chapters spoilers

he becomes an adventurer in the body of a hobgoblin

Isekai Onsen Paradise (anime, short episodes, currently airing) - onsen maniac dies looking for an onsen, and now teaches isekai natives the greatness of onsen. Yup. (There’s another story where someone reincarnates as the onsen itself, but I don’t recall its name)

Ride-on King (manga) - MC is the president of an Eastern European country, and he loves to ride critters. There’s a good focus on worldbuilding.

I guess all three are in the “whacky but fun” tier? I need to check out the Villainess’ Stat Menu one, that’s weird.

“Reincarnated as a sword” and “Reborn as a wending machine” are whacky but very fun to read/watch

Agree for both. I really liked how they handled Boxxo being barely able to talk, but still smart enough to convey ideas by the seven stock phrases + releasing items. (And Fran+Sensei need more love!)

Here you go. I haven’t read it, but I remembered it from the /r/manga discussion threads about it back in the day (I think).

Agreed on Sword and Vending Machine as well. They are both way better than the premise sounds at first. Both are examples of how good characters can make even dumb premises entertaining. I love the father-daughter dynamic they have in Sword so much.

That’s the one! Thank you for the link. I read it, but it’s… meh. I don’t mind ecchi, and my standards are a bit low, but if all that the author has to offer is ecchi, then go full hentai or go home. (Some hentai works have a better story. Like Furohile.)
