Purchased by Bernard Berenson for Isabella Stewart Gardner in 1869 and was displayed at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston before its theft in 1990; it remains missing.

I really hope that we get an explanation for where these paintings ended up in my life time. Obviously I’d like to see them recovered too, but mostly I need answers.

Yes, I recall a good podcast covering this. Wouldn’t surprise me if Whitey Bulger had some hand in it all. Perhaps it will be found in an attic somewhere

A stolen painting from UofA in Tucson was recovered during an estate sale. Family said it was hung behind the bedroom door so no one ever saw it except the couple who stole it.

Unrelated, but I love the artwork in that museum. I’ve been to Boston 3 times now, and that’s remained a highlight of my trip. El Jaleo is one of my favorite works of art (and its so much better in person)
