    Leisure Suit Larry was one of my earliest PC memories. I had to teach myself DOS to get it to run. That curiosity kickstarted a career.

      It was pretty good too. It used the LSL5 user interface, which is a lot less “read my mind” about the puzzles.

      Of course, I still remember the solution from the old version, that also helps.

      Another notable game that got a vga remake was quest for glory/hero’s quest. That too was pretty good.

    Closest thing we have to that era is Summertime Saga (free game in development, just Google). I wish there was more creators like that because that guy making SS is raking it in on Patreon. Shows how much interest there is on an unknown game.
