I saw an HP pavilion 17-f048nb at a street market and cannot find the specs for this. I simply want to know if the CPU is AMD, and if so which AMD. It’s such a shitshow on HP’s website. Considering the same HP model can sometimes have either intel or AMD, do I have any way to find out?

Sometimes you can get /some/ details based on the serial number at https://partsurfer.hp.com/ but not the CPU.

A slightly different model (17-f048ca) reportedly has an amd chip. But what do the last two letters mean? Is that a country code for where it is deployed?

Thanks! That link leads to a protectionist manual mafia site which does not give a way to simply download a PDF. But I was able to use that link to find a liberated version on archive.org:

      https://archive.org/details/manualsbase-id-189846

It’s useful because it indicates possible CPUs that might be in the laptop which includes AMD. But because the doc broadly covers all HP Pavilions with a 17 inch display, we see on page 11 that there are 22 possible CPUs, half of which are AMD. The model 17-f048nb is not mentioned.

Nonetheless, I appreciate the reference. It suggests that there probably is no documentation for 17-f048nb specifically. I would like to find a decoder for these cryptic model numbers.

I should add that someone in a crossposted thread found a possible reference to a specific AMD chip which matches the first CPU on the list in the doc you found.
