I love Doom Bar and I’m not alone since it’s among the bestselling cask ales in the UK, but it seems that the US owners are going for a quick payout by closing and asset stripping what’s left.

I wonder how long until they start building houses or an industrial park on the old site?

How can one of the most ubiquitous and popular ales in the UK not be financially sustainable? What did they do to that brewery? Lump it with a bunch of debt or something and write it off?

Molson Coors said it was exploring potential deals with other producers to keep making the beer, including brewing in other parts of the country. But Stainer added that any plans to produce the Cornish beers outside the region “would be a disgrace”.

I think many real ale drinkers would say the site is part of the product. If it’s made in a different place by different people, it’s a different beer. Shame this company doesn’t seem to understand that.

They make Coors, Miller Lite, and Carling. Safe to assume they don’t know and don’t care.

I can’t speak for Australia, but I have a great American colleague and I’m sure you’d be welcome here if you can find your way over.

Let’s sell our country piece by piece to foreign nations so they can siphon every penny they can to their own coffers, then let them shut it all down once they’ve bled us dry! Yay! We r smort!

I know several people who work there and I used to live within sight of the building. I remember when Sharps was a small but popular micro-brewery just starting to get national recognition.

I predicted that this would happen as soon as I heard Molson-Coors were moving in. Not quite sure how a business that turns over £16m and makes 100,000 barrels a year is unsustainable. Hopefully someone can buy the site and continue producing.
