Hey guys,
I started this community because I was a frequent user of /r/translators before I got banned from Reddit. I’m a translator/interpreter in Japan, and I really like helping people with translations in my free time too.
I’ve helped many people dodge bullets with crappy Japanese tattoos that make no sense, decipher old letters, identify artworks, and much more.
Of course, the community is not limited to just Japanese and English pairs. Anyone is free to ask help with whatever language!
よろしく!
PS: It’s my first time ever modding a community so I’ve a lot to learn. Feel free to let me know if I’m doing something wrong.
The community looks great!
I would recommend promoting it on !communitypromo@lemmy.ca and !newcommunities@lemmy.world so that people can find it. You can also post in related communities, like maybe !languagelearning@sopuli.xyz?
You might need to do a lot of the work initially making posts and helping people know about the community, but eventually things do kick off :)
We have some (work in progress) guides for mods on this page: https://fedecan.ca/en/guide/lemmy/for-moderators
Good luck :)
Thank you! I’ll start doing that and see if I get some traction in the community.
Hi! May I ask what is the appropriate dimensions for the icon and the banner? I couldn’t find it in your guide. Thank you!
May I requet you something? currently the community is very empty, and that is never a good look for oncoming person. Would you please make some “example posts”?.
For example, take some random quotes from different languages, and make some posts for each language (5 quotes for 1 language, 1 language per day for example). assuming you are good with japanese, if you can start with lets say 5 popular manga incorrect translations or whatever comes to your mind?. If there are some posts, people are more likely to create more. if someone sees a empty community, they would not pay much attention.
I will also try to do for languages that I know, though not today (got to go to work).
I actually was about to make a legitimate post before I noticed your comment and I made one!
I’ll make some examples with English and Japanese pairs later. Thanks so much for your suggestion!
