Wow I think no plan for what to do about ransomware, and no controls over users’ passwords is considerably more responsible for the company going under than some poor employee.
It wasn’t a single weak password - it was gross failure.
If a single weak password can bring a company down, then they lack proper layers of security/stability/failover/recovery, etc.
