I joined the fediverse during the reddit API disaster and so far I’ve been enjoying it more than most of Reddit
There’s no substitute for my local subreddit, or some of my hobby ones. But my favorite mod got usurped during the protest and it all went to shit after, so I miss it but I don’t feel the need to go back.
Making and sharing start trek memes here has gotten me through some shit.
I really appreciate the influx of new users. My feed has been way more lively lately and the amounts of upvotes some posts get is quite amazing.
I didn’t even know upvotes could have four digits before.
yeah we can start making new communities and be admins ourselves because there is going be a hella lot clients
still down by about a few million users
Does it matter? Lemmy fills a niche that other places don’t. It can only go up from here.
What do you mean?
Reddit started to get some of those great niche communities when it hit a few million users back in 2010 or so.
They’re definately here, they might only have a few thousand subscribers, but they’re still great.
That’s about when I joined Reddit
So?
I appreciate the sentiment (and I’m here on Lemmy, so go me), but Boost for Reddit still works with Revanced. If yours has stopped working, you may just need to uninstall it and reinstall it again.
Or don’t. Don’t works too.
I guess don’t want to bother reinstalling to then get banned for an upvote
to then get banned for an upvote
Are there any posts or articles where I can look more into this?
People all over Reddit are getting warnings for upvoting content that the site claims “supports violence”.
And apparently anything with the name “Luigi” in it “supports violence”
Reddit has taken a side.
“Think of the kings and nobility! You frighten them! Please just come to us with your concerns and we’ll discuss it in a civilized manner! Pick your representatives, send them in to us and stay outside, our court can’t handle you all at once. And please, dismantle the guillotine, would you?”
Boost “revanced” wtf? I thought boost stopped working entirely over two years ago. People had said something about changing an API key or something but others said that didn’t work soon thereafter.
Boost works great on Lemmy though
Boost, and Sync I know can be made to work still for reddit with revanced patches. There are other reddit apps as well but I forgot which other ones is revanced supported.
Nope, you just had to have your own moderation API key or patch the APK file
Hopefully we’ll see PeerTube grow as well
You can count codeberg in too!
Oh yes that too
I’m afraid as an American that voted for Kamala that eventually the government will block us from communicating with other countries.
Ive never lived outside of America but sometimes I feel my values more closely align with most countries except the USA. The biggest one is a strong united working class. Instead of the arrogant “get mine, fuck everyone else” attitude here.
It makes me so sad. The more I learn about my country the more I realize how evil we are and what we’ve done to this world. To their own citizens, depriving them of education, healthy food, good Healthcare, strong worker protections.
What a cesspool of greed we’ve grown up in.

The perfect storm that will strengthen the threadverse.
Hopefully we don’t get an Eternal September sort of effect though
I’m okay to deal with a small Eternal September if we reach 75-100k monthly active users
I think there’s still a little bit of a barrier to entry for probably 7/10 people. Most people don’t really understand the Fediverse concept. They just register on the first instance they come across and think of it as all of Lemmy. We need to do a better job explaining it.
Feel free to have a look at !fedibridge@lemmy.dbzer0.com. The pinned posts discuss that topic
Will do. Thanks for the link
“I really hope people with interests or skills thst diverge from my own don’t show up”
I’m sorry, but you’re being overdramatic.
Shutting down API set Reddit on an obvious path where next migration waves were inevitable. I’m not sure that all of the reasons people think Reddit is bad are valid since I agree with banning for upvotes granted there’s a documented pattern of misbehaviour for example. People started to use Luigi as a verb and behaved like children when called out on following platform policy as well as law in general. Which is weird because they tried to do it on a corporate owned app and expected to be allowed to continue.
I don’t think Lemmy needs to get big. There’s a value in recognising nicknames and knowing people. We need as many small/medium sized communities as possible so that people have real connections rather than doing performances for general public. As long as they’re on ActivityPub we’ll figure out the rest later.
