Summary

Elon Musk has tentatively agreed to appear on “The Daily Show” for an unedited interview with Jon Stewart, who recently criticized DOGE’s federal workforce cuts so passionately he injured his hand during a segment.

Stewart condemned Musk’s approach to government efficiency, arguing against indiscriminate firing of federal employees.

The show officially accepted Musk’s condition for an unedited appearance.

Despite controversy over Musk’s recent email demanding employees justify their jobs, Trump reaffirmed support for Musk at his first Cabinet meeting.

There is absolutely no way that Musk will go ahead with this. Even if it was contractually agreed that it would be aired completely unedited–which I doubt it can be, Comedy Central network censors would almost certainly have to bleep words out–Musk would come out looking so bad, esp. with a host that wouldn’t let him dodge or redirect questions, that he would skip. Muskrat might drink his own FlavorAde, but there’s not way in hell that he’s dumb enough to do this.

He didn’t follow through on his fight with Zuck, even though he swore online that he would destroy him. So no, I think that he is neither dumb enough, nor so completely unencumbered by a connection to reality, that he would actually follow through on being on the Daily Show.

My bet is he shows up for the interview but after a few questions doing his best to spin things his way and failing he rage quits and just walks off stage early. They had better prepare extra material just in case

This is a make-or-break moment for Stewart, because if he ever shows any sort of complacency with Musk when he’s face-to-face with the sonofabitch, when he’s so passionately against him when he’s not, as talk show hosts often do with controversial guests, his audience will punish him something fierce.

“Make or break?” Jon Stewart is on what is essentially the victory tour of his career. He was so popular in his first stint at the daily show that some openly wondered whether the show could continue without him. He retired from that to work advocacy for first responders, for which he was lauded. He’s back now because even a solid decade away couldn’t make the audience forget his heyday. I’ve criticized Stewart in the past, but even I can see that if he were to flub this interview most would shrug “huh, sad how the greats start to slip as they age,” and tune back in next week.

I’m not hugely versed on American show hosts, but that would seem very out of character for Stewart who seems a bit more earnest than the usual from what little I know.

Part of his brand is that he is authentic in his beliefs. He also has had numerous people on in the past that he did not like personally but was able to have a civil conversation with. I think John could run for president and win but I also think he doesn’t want the headaches or he would have done it already.

It’s very common for hosts - hell, anybody - to be vitriolic with someone who isn’t there in person, and then become all civil, polite and buddy-buddy-like with them when they’re around. For example, Bill Maher recently invited that turd Matt Gaetz on his podcast show thing and it was the most nauseating best-friends act you never saw, considering how critical Maher has been of the guy.

Oh this disgusting scene that shows in no uncertain way that all politicians are in fact in the same club of psychopaths, and their public rivalries are just theater.

I just came to say this. There is no tolerance. Jon Stewart is going to get crucified and pushed to either quit or he will have such a disgust from the reaction that he’ll end up hating the left. He’s too good at what he does. Any effective communicator must be purged no exceptions

This seems like a bad idea… Anyone currently supporting Musk/Trump just believes the lies and has no issue with their behavior. It’s essentially impossible for the interview to go so poorly that they’ll actually see it that way. It’s just giving Musk more attention and yet another platform.

Republican fake accounts start spreading clips of Stewart being friendly to Musk and then a bunch of others write comments like “I never liked him” and “traitors gonna traitor” and eventually the rest just pick it up for content. There’s lots of ways this goes down. It’s gone often. The fact you can’t see it coming is why it keeps happening

I mean, clips being taken out of context would not be a new thing, and some people may react like that because they never knew John Stewart. But to conflate that to the whole of “the left” seems to be overblowing it to the point of absurdity. And John isn’t going to just spend his interview pointing at musk going ‘NAZI’ for an hour. They are going to talk, and he’s going to ask hard questions in a comedic way and give musk all the rope to hand himself. You can see his past interviews as a primer to see how this goes.

I was asking on what grounds as in what makes you think John Stewart will suddenly change from how he acted his whole life. Not how people could try to defame him out of context.

Because the same way a lot of people have. People are getting tired of the left and their approach to every issue. They are disorganized, unintelligent mass that hasn’t accomplished anything in the past 20 years worth discussing.

You conflate democrats with the left. They are not the same. Democrats are a right leaning political party. The US has no active left wing party. The correlation of left voters and the DNC is an acknowledgement that republicans are further right, harmful and evil in the extreme, people are upset at the democrats because they have refused to run on left policies, the democrat lawmakers with a couple of exceptions act as republicans from like 15 years ago in policy. They haven’t done anything because they like things the way they are now and the left has no leverage over them.

And again John Stewart is not overly sympathetic to the DNC and calls them out for their bullshit on the regular. Your POV makes no sense

No I didn’t conflate them. Democrats aren’t even left. It’s shit like this though. Like calling a guy and his base an idiot then constantly losing the entire government to him multiple times. It’s the lack of foresight. Lack of organizing and putting effort into places and things that work. It’s falling for traps and overall not being a cohesive group.

The people you are referencing being tired of the “left” ARE the left. It’s the democrats approach to the issues the people (the left) are getting tired of. They are disorganized because the voting system prevents them from running. The reason there have been no progressive policy victories in 20 years is because democrats have a vested interest in preventing it. I said you conflate democrats and the left because you lay the blame on the wrong entity.

Your comment about the left being unintelligent is a mask off moment and shows you are not an honest interlocutor

well he has been the subject of criticism from leftists. the daily show’s schtick for over two decades is pointing out hypocrisy in conservative politics, which is completely ineffective because you cannot shame a conservative politician into doing anything. also, many of jons arguments and comedy come from an incredibly centered political stance, which also wins him no favor from the left.

Which makes Jon a threat when it comes to optics and right now the right has mastered optics. They will target him. And when I say target it, a lot of people might think they will attack him. No I mean they will convince the left to do it. They play the left like a fiddle.
