I like that he points out hidden suggestion behind word “tankie” that only Western “communists” got the it right, while most other revolutionary movements across the globe got got it wrong.

It comes from a perspective of privilege and ignorance - supposedly we should not support existing revolutionary movements, but sit on our asses and complain about capitalism while condemning every attempt to stop this horrible imperialist machine. Most people who suffer the most would probably not agree with this point of view, but they are ignored.

It seems that these people do not take this into account.

In popular discourse, Hungary, in 1956 was visited by a mysterious people from abroad. Where did they come from? Who were they? Some thought they were the infamous ‘‘Asiatic hordes’’ from Western mythology, that show up in history every now and then to sow chaos in the garden; others thought they were like the ‘‘Sea Peoples’’ of legend, that crushed the Egyptian Empire, and many thought they came from the jungle, because they knew these people were not relatively European, nor relatively civilized. The British papers at the time noted that these people came riding in armored cars called ‘‘tanks’’, which had apparently not been seen since WW2, and from lack of imagination and relying on western sources, they began to call them ‘‘tankies’’.

Watched the video itself. It was pretty good, Hakim did an excellent job on explaining the term tankie and why it’s often a meaningless insult just to shut down an argument (esepcially when a liberal uses it just because they hate being proven wrong)
