Obnoxiously, my 15 and 25 year old vehicles have no suitable place to mount a phone, and the 25 year old one has no particularly good speaker capabilities (3rd party speaker mods universally suck, as far as I’ve been able to tell, over the last 30 years, I have yet to find one that wasn’t awful).
also, theoretically, it’ll be illegal to use the keypad to enter numbers for an IVR.
I suppose I could dig out one of those old RadioShack DTMF dialers (or build one) and mount it to the wheel to comply :D lol
seriously, though, just imagining weird situations where people could get hit by this… it’s not a bad thing, it’s just annoying to me. I’m going to have to find suitable mounts for both of the cars, that don’t also subject the phones to temperature extremes (most mounts would place it at the vent level, which is only good during a few months in Michigan, when you aren’t freezing or heating the car) … probably replace the head unit in the 25 year old one, too, although i’ve wanted to keep that car as stock as possible for the historical value. Someone does modify these original head units to add Bluetooth to them, but it doesn’t include mic, so that sucks.
I understand the intent, but it’s kinda annoying for those of us with older cars that need to use GPS.
Same with those of us who don’t have Bluetooth for the phones
