Here is the conversation I had this morning in the car with my 9 year old son as we drove past an LDS temple:

me: Hey, look at that gold statue up there. Do you see that?

son: Yes, I see it.

me: Looks like he’s holding a trumpet, what do you think that is.

son: eh… I don’t know.

Me: interesting huh. (We drive on, with no futher comments. )

I was thrilled that he just saw a building with some random statue on top, didn’t know what it is, didn’t care what it was and we drove on. We stopped attending church 4 years ago. it’s been wonderful!
