The CNN poll also asked voters about potential replacements for Biden. Harris fared the best, trailing Trump by only two points, 47 percent to 45 percent, within the margin of error.
Several other prominent Democrats outperformed Biden in polling, including Govs. Gavin Newsom (Calif.) and Gretchen Whitmer (Mich.), as well as Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
The Biden campaign has quickly shut down any notion that the president would leave the 2024 race.
A majority of Democrats and left-leaning independents, 56 percent, said the party is more likely to win in November without Biden, according to the poll.
In a head-to-head match-up, Trump holds a 6-point lead over Biden nationally, which is the same lead as in April’s CNN poll.
It’s not even personal anymore. Or about if Biden would be a good president or not.
He doesn’t have the support to beat Trump. And trump is too dangerous to risk a candidate people don’t like.
For fucks sake, Biden might be the first Dem to lose the popular vote in decades. Because of the electoral college there’s no way for a Dem to carry enough states without the popular vote. Republicans get away with it because of small shitty red states.
Unfortunately, none of that 75% is the portion of the population that can force that to happen… that doesn’t mean we should stop bitching though.
Both candidates lose to a generic 3rd candidate. That was true even before the debate. The problem is finding a generic 3rd candidate that people agree on.
Truth is, the only person I can think of with enough name recognition that might bring enough support from progressives, moderates, and centrists this late is maybe Pete Buttigieg. But I wouldn’t bet on it. Biden needs to use every moment from here until November to get in front of people to show that the debate was an outlier.
I’d love to put Senator Whitehouse up as an alternative - climate change needs to be the priority.
A majority of Democrats and left-leaning independents, 56 percent, said the party is more likely to win in November without Biden, according to the poll.
So the other 19% are Republicans who know this would guarantee a Democratic loss? lmao
Replacing Biden is suicide at this point.
I think you’re misreading statistics… if 75% of voters think Biden is an impairment and only 56% of left leaning voters think Biden is an impairment then, assuming they equally sampled right and left leaning voters, that means nearly all conservatives think Biden is an impairment.
You’re right. That’s even worse. If ~100% of Republicans want him gone, that’s all the more reason to keep him aboard.
I don’t know if I fully agree with that - I assume GOPers hold that belief mostly for the wrong reasons (probably some BS about “Biden crime family”). But the majority of liberals think it’s a bad idea to keep him on, and we should have a discussion about that.
