Assuming the opposite would be silly and easy to manipulate.

We should assume that he is lying, whatever he says.

I should assume he is talking in order to communicate ideas via language, actually

if all you do is believe that someone is ALWAYS lying you’re gonna run into some very funny corners

Putin says he would prefer Trump: I knew it, because Russian asset Comrade Drumpf is in luuuuv with Putin! (not homophobic btw)

Putin says he would prefer Biden: As if you could believe anything the notorious liar Putler says.

I assume any politician that has any real power lies as easily as they breathe, can you name a U.S. politician that doesn’t just drop in the right buzz words while they skirt answering uncomfortable questions?

I don’t think "buzz words* are relevant to this particular context, as we’re talking about a specific answer to a specific question. Also, because a specific answer was given, we’re not talking about being evasive either.

Why are you even allowing his opinion to influence you at all? If he can say something that can change the way you vote, or act politically if you do more than vote doubt , Putin has already won whatever game you think he’s playing.

If instead, you acknowledge that your politics can exist in ways outside of conversations between politicians, you can actually practice your politics and laugh when some misguided liberal throws out a baby-brained comment.

That’s absolutely absurd and not how political analysis is done. You don’t just assume a politician is lying because they’re “bad.” When Kim Jong-Un says he wants America out of the ROK, nobody assumes he’s lying.
