I just find it continually hilarious that Fawkes has become this revolutionary/anarchist symbol, when he was in fact an authoritarian religious fanatic.
Because the king* wasn’t tolerant enough* of Catholics. The plotters had hoped that James would permit Catholics their religious freedom, but he was repressive.
Standard reminder that Guy Fawkes was actually a monarchist who wanted to blow up Parliament because they weren’t Catholic enough.
And Pepe wasn’t a Nazi.
But it’s always fun [imagining] blowing up parliament.

I understand. I find it sucks that authoritarian/ fascists coopt and forever taint and destroy symbols and words and people’s childhoods.
