Ukraine used ArduPilot to help it wipe out Russian targets. It wasn’t the first time and it won’t be the last.

Open source software used by hobbyist drones powered an attack that wiped out a third of Russia’s strategic long range bombers on Sunday afternoon, in one of the most daring and technically coordinated attacks in the war.

In broad daylight on Sunday, explosions rocked air bases in Belaya, Olenya, and Ivanovo in Russia, which are hundreds of miles from Ukraine. The Security Services of Ukraine’s (SBU) Operation Spider Web was a coordinated assault on Russian targets it claimed was more than a year in the making, which was carried out using a nearly 20-year-old piece of open source drone autopilot software called ArduPilot.

ArduPilot’s original creators were in awe of the attack. “That’s ArduPilot, launched from my basement 18 years ago. Crazy,” Chris Anderson said in a comment on LinkedIn below footage of the attack.

Not many people know but Ukraine is not very interested in peace either. Their demands are almost as unrealistic as Russia’s.

Don’t forget the demand to leave their country. That’s just a bridge too far for putin.

How do you conclude from unrealistic demands to no interest in peace?

What do you think the prospects of short and long-term peace are? What would you be willing to sacrifice for temporary “peace”?

They probably know better than us. No?

How do you conclude from unrealistic demands to no interest in peace?

Not exactly no interest but not enough interest. I believe the main reason of the war is Russia not being particularly happy with Ukraine’s decision to join NATO. I’d say it’s impossible to end the war without Ukraine giving up on that.

Also Ukrainian officials exhibit severe discrimination and disrespect against Russian people which is not helping the situation imo.

What would you be willing to sacrifice for temporary “peace”?

I’m well aware of the risk of another conflict. It’s Russia we’re dealing with here after all. However I don’t think it’s really possible to eliminate it completely. That is the part professionals should think about. My unprofessional suggestion would be letting Ukraine have WMDs.
